Nose: First showing a fruity tang of red plum, peach and blackberry. Then dryer with a smooth, nutty layer underneath and a buttery Madeira cake.

Palate: Stunning. Sweet, tongue-coating and fiery, then chewy on the mid-palate; gingery and tangy too, dense orchard fruits alongside a light gaminess.

Finish: Soft, coating and surprisingly sweet, with blackcurrant and drying yet silky-smooth tannins. Later, chilli-accented dark chocolate.
